My story
Hi, I’m Masha, the owner and founder of KnotMeKnotYou. I was born and raised in the chilly landscapes of Siberia, Russia, but everything changed when I took my first trip abroad to India at 24. For the first time, I saw the ocean—its saltwater waves and vibrant energy—and experienced a lifestyle so different from my life back home. That same year, I visited Nepal and was captivated by the majesty of the Himalayas. Those moments sparked a deep desire to explore the world, and I made the life-changing decision to travel.
For years, I worked as a professional photographer, a career that was both rewarding and exciting. However, sustaining it while traveling proved to be more challenging than I expected. Then, I rediscovered macrame—a craft I had loved as a child when I made plant hangers and wall art in after-school programs. Creating macrame jewelry felt both familiar and thrillingly new, and it quickly became my passion. My backpack became heavier with strings and gemstones, but I didn’t mind.
Soon, I started experimenting with pop-up stalls on Goa’s beaches, surrounded by fellow artisans, and I loved every moment of it. Fast forward a few years and I was traveling the world, selling my jewelry across Asia and Europe. Then came COVID, and life brought an unexpected twist. I found myself in Maine with my then-fiancé, now husband. We fell in love with this beautiful state and decided to make it home.
Now, as a mom to two little boys, creating macrame jewelry and traveling to local markets helps me stay grounded, creative, and connected to the adventurous spirit I cultivated during my travels. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for being here on my website. Your support means the world to me. Much love,
Masha
